Our
Story

Get to Know the Pool

In 1977, Kay Vale, President of the Board of Education, and Superintendent Frank C. Maher secured a $2,360,740 grant from the Economic Development Administration for the Platte Canyon School District #1. This funding enabled the construction of an auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium, classrooms, swimming pool, and a solar energy package, completed by 1978. Marge E. Hudak, an early pool manager, dedicated herself to keeping the pool operational during challenging times until her untimely death in 1987, after which the pool was named in her honor in 1988. Despite budget constraints leading to closures in 1980-1981 and 1986-1987, the Friends of the Pool Inc. was established in 1981 to support its continued operation.

Our Purpose

Our nonprofit is dedicated to fostering aquatic, charitable, and educational activities at the Marge E. Hudak Pool within the Platte Canyon School District One. We strive to connect with diverse community members, provide vital support to the pool manager, and collaborate with the school district to ensure optimal guidance. Through cooperative planning, research, fundraising, and public education programs, we aim to enhance aquatic initiatives in Park County, CO. In our commitment to the community, we have previously funded essential equipment to maintain pool operations and sponsored swim lessons for local children, enriching their lives through water safety and enjoyment.
